London, heavy snow

Monday, Feb 2, I went to London and met the heavy snow in London.

I bet it's unusual because all bus and most metro lines STOPPED!

And I saw one driver stopped his land-rover right in the lane and another man stood in the middle of Oxford because both of them were going to take photos of the sonw scenery.

Feel lucky I was there. Though the whole day was exausted because of the cold and difficulties, but I can take many photos of this unusual snow day.

The Perch and the Trout Inn

Thanks Ryan, I had a great time last Saturday afternoon: walked along north Oxford to two Old pubs each has hundreds years history!!!

Besides the two pubs, the road going there was amazing too:

We walked through a very peaceful river side.

We bumped with many geese/ducks(?) flied in a sudden over our heads!

The Perch: A beautiful and cozy house. Full of details with many surprises here and there:

We not just walked, we trekked and jumped

I believe for us, it's a wonderful closing for the first term.

Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!!

First seminar held by me

November 07, 2008, I pensented the first seminar in SBS.
Though I was over tired even hard to speak English smoothly. I feel so happy because everyone there enjoyed.
People thought and talked, people laughed and got involved.
Two things I learnt from this trying:
1. If you want to do a seminar, do it!
You don't need to be a key member of any OBN or committee. Hesitation will be the only thing which prevents you realizing it.

2. Don’t ignore an exhausting class.
One of the three sections didn't show up anyone even several people who promised they would come because an exhausting class just before my seminar. So do take care of what will happen before the seminar and prepare for that: do more promotion!

Top of the Chapel

According to the book Cathedral, Parish Churches, College Chapels of Oxford, there are "at least seventy churches, chapels, meeting houses, mosques and synagogues" in Oxford. One of them is in my college. It looks grand and beautiful. People can easily visit it most of the time. However it's very unusual standing on the roof of it. I was very lucky to take a tour to the top of the chapel!

It was mid October. First, we were showed the inside of the Chapel and were told the history of it and the meaning of many paintings around the walls.

pipe organ

My first time seeing a real pipe organ. This pipe organ is so beautiful and unique because of the colours. Even the wall, the roof are full of colours. What a special chapel.
Up a very narrow spiral staircase, we started this amazing advanture.
There was a lot of dust on these stairs. You can easily see that people seldom walk on them.
The last part of the stairs were very steep. I had to use both my hands and feet to climb.
Top of the chapel. The thing that amazed me most was that there was so much wood! After so many years the floor doesn't even have any sound when you walk on it. The place where I live is much newer than this chapel and we always hear sound and worry about it when we walk on it!

Dead bat's body
Finally, we stood on the top of the Chapel!
It's so different watching the college from this angle:

And I found that the roads in the middle of the grass is a...
And for me, it's like a closer way to talk with this place which is more than 200 years:

'Hi.
How are you?'

See chapel again in another angle with the amazing sunset reflection:
